My Hockey Alpha

Chapter 699

Chapter 0699

Enzo

My eyes locked onto the enormous bear that was now thundering toward me, six-hundred pounds of snarling fury and dagger-length claws. The deafening roar that escaped the bear's throat almost seemed to shake the very stone beneath my paws.

Every instinct screamed to brace for impact as the grizzly charged at me.

"What the hell?" I thought to my wolf. "How—"

"Don't even question it," my wolf commanded. "Just don't get killed, dammit!"

My wolf was right; there was no time for speculation or awe. There was a wild beast hurtling toward me, reading to kill. Taking in a sharp breath, I lunged out of the way just before the bear collided with me. Up above, the vicious cries erupted from the crowd and caught my momentary attention.

"Rip his throat!"

"Flay the mongrel!"

I didn't know which one of us they were cheering for-me or the bear.

Nonetheless, I filtered out the madness of the crowd, my frenzied thoughts strategizing escape routes desperately feint left then sprint right for the gate, which was still open? No, I could never outpace this monster in this wide open

arena.

"Kill him! Kill him!" the crowd cheered menacingly.

I grimaced, my upper lip curling back to reveal a row of sharp teeth. There was only one hope of survival now: I needed to stand and fight.

As the enraged grizzly bear whirled around closed in for the kill, outrage roared through my soul at being cornered for bloodsport. If Mila wanted a gory show of dominance from her 'chosen mate', then... she was going to get one.

I rolled smoothly as the grizzly lunged at me, narrowly evading the kill-swipe of its enormous claws. Then, I leaped with my fangs bared, aiming to grapple the bear's vulnerable throat and end this fight swiftly.

But my panicked instinct hijacked any rational thought-no, I didn't want to kill. This wasn't me... right?

My teeth snapped shut an inch from fur as the bear whirled away with astonishing speed.

I yelped as another brutal swat of the bear's enormous paw connected with my shoulder, hurling me across the blackened floor. Agonized gasps echoed from the spectators above, but there was no time to check my battered state.

The bear charged again instantly, his maw wide open and dripping with saliva. He was hungry.

What followed blurred into an endless flurry of claws and fangs, offense versus defense in a frenzy to simply survive. My strikes were fueled only by frantic desperation while animalistic bellows assaulted me from all sides.

"Kill!" the crowd screeched. "Blood! Bathe the floors in blood!"

They got what they wanted; blood soon slicked the black obsidian tiles, its metallic tang coating my muzzle until I could no longer differentiate mine from my unwilling opponent's.noveldrama

We struggled for what felt like hours, both of us now gushing what felt like rivers of blood from deep lacerations. My vision swam as the pain mounted beyond anything I had endured before even the torture beneath Edward's vile hands.

But I could not yield; one misstep meant disembowelment by the tireless beast intent on destroying me. And if I had any chance, even a flicker of a chance, at getting out of here and seeing Nina again...

Then I had to be the one who destroyed him instead.

Through the writhing chaos, Mila's piercing cries prodded at my overflowing fury: "Fight for me!" she cried out. "Prove your worth, my champion!"

With a savage snarl I hurled myself behind the bear mid-charge, letting its enormous momentum carry it skidding past me. Before it could regain balance I seized its exposed nape, clamping down with an immense strength fueled entirely by nothing but pure, primal survival.

The bear's hide tore easily within my jaws. I felt its sinew shred between my canines. The grizzly's choked bellows rang out, matching the spectators' fevered screams... And then its immense body crashed down, twitching before it finally fell limp.

I released the broken neck and staggered backwards, half-blinded by sweat and gore. Heaving raggedly, I knew I had survived the impossible clash. But at a devastating cost that was now carved into my soul forever. I had killed in the most primal, savage way possible.

And part of me had loved it.

Panting, I shifted back into my human form and fell to my knees, the tiles warm and damp with blood now beneath my palms. What little strength I had was gone now; my wolf was spent. The cries of the crowd faded into a hum, into nothingness.

Nina... I needed to see Nina.

The bear's carcass that laid before me began to ripple, blurring until it became a bloodied naked man splayed out on the tiles. Of course this was no regular bear; he had been a shifter, just like me. There was a man under there, and I had taken his life.

His vacant jade eyes stared lifelessly back at me, his body destroyed beyond all belief by my unwilling attacks. Hot revulsion bubbled up in my throat as I stared into those lifeless, wild eyes.

Something strange oozed from the corners of them, although I didn't know what it was; but something in me roiled as I saw it, and suddenly, recognition washed over me...

What had Mila done to this bear to make him fight like this?

Before I could finish fathoming what was happening here, rough hands suddenly wrenched me upwards. Silver encased my wrists and my neck, burning and searing again if I moved an inch.

"You will face our queen."

I blinked and found myself eye level with emerald silk and those crimson eyes with their slitted pupils. Somehow Mila had closed the distance without my notice; I had been too numb to process anything beyond the violent painting that was imprinted forever on my psyche.

"You're magnificent, my champion..."

Her musical voice barely registered. My body remained, but the man I was had died out there on the bloodied floor just like the bear. I felt strangely empty, like my soul was somewhere else. Maybe my soul had returned to Nina. I think I could live with this if that was the case...

I let my head fall forward, no longer possessing the will to even look into the eyes of my tormentor. But her hand caught my chin, forcing me to look up at her.

"I'm here, my love," she whispered, her fingers working to unbutton the emerald silk robe that covered her body." Let's finish this ritual..."

I swallowed. I saw one of her milky white breasts peek out from behind her robe. The crowd continued to cheer, twitter, pound their feet and chant. I looked up at them, seeing how they writhed and danced in ecstasy. An orgy.

"Mila!"

Suddenly, an unfamiliar voice pierced the clamoring din sharply. My eyes snapped up reflexively toward the source, and it was then that my heart began to pound along with the drums up above. Mila froze, her robe snapping shut around her breasts as she whirled to look upon the scene that was unfolding in front of us.

Clutched between two guards, trailing behind a man holding a lantern, was her-with a wild look of awe and fear in her eyes, and her hands resting protectively over her belly.

Nina.
